The Ugly Side of the Industry – #2 Goo Goo Ga Ga

Now, what kinda blogger would I be if I didn’t explain that one. What am I trying to say already? Well, Goo Goo Ga Ga is what I call fluffy talk. You will no doubt get a lot of this from your friends and family each time you try on a gown. It usually takes the form of something like this, “Oh, my gosh, what a princess!” “Oh you are just the most georgious bride I have ever seen!” “What a lucky guy, you look absolutely amazing!” This is usually truthful coming from them and it is ok. As a matter of fact it is kinda nice being the center of attention for once.

Goo Goo Ga Ga is not universally accepted. Everyone cannot use Goo Goo Ga Ga or else it begins to sound a bit like a sales tactic. And it can be. Bridal salon salespeople will say you look good in a chicken costume if it means you will buy the dress. These salespeople work on commission so no matter what gown you try on, usually the more expensive the better, the Goo Goo Ga Ga will be poured on. This tactic is meant to play off of the rollercoaster of emotions that you are having as a new bride in order to make a sale. Don’t get me wrong I’m sure you really look beautiful and the Goo Goo Ga Ga well deserved but this flattery is not genuine all the time.

Along with the flatter you may also notice an urgency to buy for the following reasons:
The dress YOU like is DISCONTINUED, and will not be available in the store after today.
If you do not put a deposit down TODAY, then the dress cannot be held.
If you do not buy it NOW, it will never be available again.

* I heard a really good one where I was told that there was Chinese New Year around the time of the wedding so the dresses had to be purchased 6 months ahead of time so that I could make sure the dresses were made because if they weren’t made before the manufacturers went on vacation, then they would not be ready in time. So we ordered the dresses and they arrived 2 months BEFORE the wedding!

Please take a friend that you trust with you to try on dresses. Take your mother yes, but every mother’s baby looks good in everything so she may be a victim of the Goo Goo Ga Ga without knowing it. Take someone that you know will give you an honest opinion no matter what. The average gown costs $800.00 and the designer gowns can cost in the $5000 range and up. You don’t want to pay all that money for a ugly gown.

Save money on your reception … host a Partylite show, and receive free decor for your hall …

And, you are right about those darn pushy dress peddlers who will use any trick they can to sell you a dress … it’s just crazy what they will say.
